Add-On / Bolt-On

An add-on (or bolt-on) is a smaller company acquired to expand an existing platform company rather than as a standalone investment. Because add-ons are usually bought at lower multiples than the platform, they can lower the group's blended entry price, a tactic known as multiple arbitrage. They are the building blocks of a buy-and-build strategy.
