Covenant-Lite (Cov-Lite)

A covenant-lite loan omits maintenance covenants that would require the borrower to hit financial ratios tested regularly, relying instead on looser incurrence covenants triggered only by specific actions. This gives borrowers more breathing room but leaves lenders with fewer early warning signs and less leverage in a downturn. Cov-lite terms became standard in large leveraged loans.
