Exit

An exit is how a fund sells a portfolio company to realize its investment and return cash to LPs. Common routes are a sale to another company (strategic), a sale to another sponsor (secondary buyout), an IPO, or a recapitalization. Exit timing and value largely determine the deal's realized return.
