General Partner (GP)

The general partner is the firm that manages a private equity fund: it raises capital, sources and executes deals, oversees portfolio companies, and eventually returns money to investors. The GP has unlimited liability for the fund's obligations and earns a management fee plus carried interest. In practice the GP entity is usually itself a limited partnership or LLC so the individuals behind it are shielded.
